       Write to Rosi

 Dear Friends,

My name is Rosi. I am a Guide Dog. We live in a long white house

with a green roof and large garden. In our house you'll find Mum

and Dad, me of course and Allie. Allie is a German Shepherd, she

is not a guide-dog, but she is my friend. Sometimes Allie is called

Allie-Bear or just Bear; sometimes I am called Rosi Rabbit or

just Rabbit.

                  Things That Go Bump

in the Night!

Do you like fireworks’ displays and thunderstorms?

People seem to love them heaps or not like them at all

but what about dogs?

Well, as far we can work out, some dogs are scared

of the flashes and some don’t like the bangs,

while other dogs hate all of it.

There are even some lucky dogs who either don’t care or just don’t seem to notice.

Can you guess which group Allie and I fit in to? All right, I’ll tell you,

it’s the bangs we don’t like. Mum doesn’t enjoy them much either but she pretends

everything is all right so that we don’t worry as much.

Did you know that the RSPCA and other animal shelters often have extra dogs

to care for after storms or fireworks? Dogs who have run away from home

because they were scared. Isn’t that sad?

Dad turns up the telly – usually a DVD – if there’s a small storm so that we

don’t hear it, (or not much of it). Some dogs have special medicine to calm them

down before the bangs and flashes begin.

Why is it that the biggest, loudest storms happen in the middle of the night?

If I am working and there is a storm I just pretend it isn’t there and do my job anyway.

We have a special way of getting away from fireworks if we know they are coming.

One day I might even tell you what it is.

Happy New Year! Will you write to me this year? I promise to answer your letter when you do.

Lots of love, woofs and wags,

    Rosi
